Every penny you raise makes a real difference to the lives of men with prostate cancer and their families.
Fundraising and asking people for sponsorship might be daunting at first but you will soon get the hang of it and we guarantee you will get as much satisfaction from fundraising as you will get from taking part in the Tour Ride.
Here are some tips on raising your sponsorship. When you are fundraising you are also raising awareness – so the more people you involve in your fundraising, the better. Remember though the most important thing to do is have fun!
Getting started
Here’s some tips on what to do first:
- Make a plan of how you’ll raise your sponsorship – include timings, a budget and list of people to contact for donations, sponsorship etc.
- Start as early as possible!
- Set up your online fundraising page first. Forward the link to your colleagues well as friends and family. Make sure the first person to donate on your page makes a large donation as this will act as a guide to other sponsors.
- Get together a group of friends or relatives to help you with your fundraising give each of them a sponsorship form so that they can help get donations too.
- Ask for sponsorship around pay day as you are likely to get larger donations.
- Don’t be afraid to remind people to sponsor you. Often people intend to sponsor someone but forget and therefore are quite glad of an email reminder.
- Take a sponsorship form or details of your online fundraising page everywhere you go and don’t be afraid to ask anyone and everyone for a donation.
- Use your workplace to raise funds. Ask all your contacts, especially suppliers, to sponsor you. Ask HR if you can arrange a dress down day to raise funds and charge everyone £2 to take part. Hold a coffee morning or ask colleagues to make a donation for their coffee and give them a free biscuit. Ask the boss to donate a days holiday which can be raffled off to staff (this can raise LOTS of money!)
- Display sponsorship forms at work, at your local club or children’s school.
- Ensure that your sponsors tick the Gift Aid box! We can claim 28 pence for every £1 donated. See the enclosed Gift Aid sheet for details.
- Order some materials – we can provide free balloons, key rings, pens etc to help you raise awareness.
